Plant-Based Protein [ powder & shakes ]

Fitness is a big part of my lifestyle, so with my vegan diet I have to make sure that I’m still getting the vital nutrients and protein my body needs in order to recover. In addition to incorporating nutrient dense, protein rich foods like beans, whole grains, and nuts into my diet, I’ve been fueling my body post-workout with Vega, plant-based protein powder.

I typically have a protein shake post workout, but unfortunately my go-to powder by Optimum Nutrition is NOT vegan. I tried two different brands with vegan options – Vega and Vegan Shakeology.

Shakeology offers four dairy-free vegan flavors (Chocolate, Vanilla, Cafe Latte and Strawberry) and Vega offers five (Bodacious Berry, Viva Vanilla, Tropical Tango, Natural and Choc-a-lot). I really only care to use vanilla and chocolate, so number of flavor options doesn’t hold much weight to me personally. I do however strongly prefer the Vega powder to Shakeology. I found that although Shakeology packs a good punch (protein and amino acids, antioxidants and super-fruits, phytonutrients and super-greens, adaptogen herbs, probiotics and probiotics, and digestive enzymes), my taste buds prefer Vega. Vega is a little gritty, but I’ve gotten used to it. Shakeology is too thick/rich for my liking.

Strawberry // Banana // Peach 

1 cup Viva Vanilla Vega protein powder

1 cup frozen strawberry, banana, peach blend

1 cup unsweetened Vanilla almond milk

2 tablespoons Gluten Free oats

1 teaspoon Chia Seeds

 

Chocolate Covered Strawberry Banana

1 cup Choc-a-lot Vega protein powder

1 cup frozen strawberry banana blend

1 cup unsweetened Vanilla almond milk

2 tablespoons Gluten Free oats

1 teaspoon Chia Seeds

 

Chocolate Blueberry

1 cup Viva Vanilla Vega protein powder

1 cup frozen blueberries

1 cup unsweetened Vanilla almond milk

2 tablespoons Gluten Free oats

1 teaspoon Chia Seeds

 

Vanilla Coffee

1 cup Viva Vanilla Vega protein powder

1 cup Chameleon Cold-Brew Organic Vanilla Coffee

1 cup unsweetened Vanilla almond milk

1 cup ice
